New-York, the city where all your dreams come true! This city was number 1 on my bucket list, and I was not disappointed. There are so many things to see, so many stores to shop and so much food to try! When in NYC, you feel like you’ll never have enough time to do everything you want to.
NYC: my first stay in the USA
I am an au pair with the Cultural Care program, so I spent my first week at the training school in New-York. This first week is really intense: you leave your country, your family and friends to live on the other side of the planet for a year. The jet lag is hard, but this week is so exciting that you get over the fatigue! The Cultural Care team is caring and make sure you all feel good.
During this first week, you meet so many people from all over the world, the cultural exchange is real. Your roommates are usually going in the same area as you are: take the time to know each other and spend time together, you will meet again for sure. We had classes about CPR and how to be a good au pair and take good care of kids. During these classes, you get to know other au pairs and learn a lot about their cultures. Don’t hesitate to ask questions! A visit to NYC is organized during this week. I was really excited to finally discover this famous city!
Buildings and busy streets
My very first view of New-York was from the plane window, during the landing. It was breath-taking, the buildings are really high! From the ground, the buildings are even more impressive. When walking the high line, you get this amazing view on NYC streets and yellow taxi cabs.
New-York is as crowded as you expect it to be. This city is so dynamic: cabs everywhere, people walking fast, hot-dogs stands at every street corner, colorful commercials everywhere… I was amazed. Everything is huge, the biggest stores are in NYC, if you like shopping, this is the place to be! If you love eating, well, you won’t be disappointed. Hot-dogs are the most american thing you can try in New-York. Also, if you love burgers, you’ll need to go to Shake Shack and eat their famous burger! It’s delicious.
Magic happens at night time
The buildings turn into this light orange-pink color when the sun goes down, and the city becomes full of softness. Then, the lights are turned on and the commercials are even more bright. NYC seems to turn into a different city, where everything is happening at night.
Going to Times Square at this moment is certainly the best thing to do! It doesn’t even seem like night exists there, screens and lights are so bright. Seeing all the windows of the buildings is special. It seems like nobody’s sleeping at night. Go to the top of the Rockefeller Center if you have the opportunity, the view of NYC by night is something to experience at least once in a lifetime.
